Work For Cardinal Services During The COVID-19 Outbreak

Thursday, May 14, 2020

We understand that our community and our entire country is under an unprecedented amount of stress right now. We’ve never had to deal with something as widespread as the COVID-19 outbreak and everyone is wondering how this is going to impact our community here in Kosciusko County.

At Cardinal Services, we serve individuals who need daily help with living skills, which means we are still supporting our current employees and hiring new employees during this time.

Why Cardinal Services Is Still Hiring

We started hiring to fill Direct Support Professional (DSP) positions before the COVID-19 outbreak and we’re continuing to do so. Our needs haven’t changed, and we still need Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to help people with disabilities and challenges achieve their goals and live with dignity within our community.

The people we serve need daily care and our DSPs are responsible for assisting with daily living skills. This can include using a household budget, cooking, cleaning, and maintaining personal hygiene. Working as a DSP is considered to be an essential service, as the individuals we care for cannot manage daily living skills independently.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, our DSPs are being creative problem-solvers by continuing to help those they serve still enjoy activities safely like playing games, baking, cooking, going for neighborhood walks while maintaining social distancing, and more.

Keeping You Safe: Application And Interview Process For New Employees

Our first priority for potential new employees is to ensure your safety. We take Governor Holcomb’s stay home order seriously and want to make sure that applying to work for Cardinal Services does not violate that order.

If you are ready to apply to become a DSP with Cardinal Services, you can complete and submit your application completely online without having to leave your home.

If you are hired by Cardinal Services, we will work with you to make sure you can safely complete your new hire paperwork, orientation requirements, and begin your new job as a DSP with us.

Keeping You Safe: Reducing The Risk Of COVID-19 Exposure For Our Essential Employees

The health and safety of our employees and those we serve is vital to ensuring we can continue to provide services to people with disabilities and challenges. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have taken the following steps to keep our DSPs and other employees safe from exposure.

  • Urgent additional training
  • Staff resources to help employees cope with COVID-related grief
  • A thorough infectious control policy that includes:
    • Overview of COVID-19 prevention and precautions
    • Instructions describing how to use personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • How to respond if someone is suspected to have COVID-19 or has been diagnosed
  • Ensuring Cardinal Services employees have an adequate supply of PPE for staff members and persons served
  • Minimizing the risk of exposure by only allowing direct care staff to enter the homes of persons served
