Pre-ETS school year recap: Celebrating Student Success

Throughout this school year, our Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) program has provided students with valuable opportunities to build skills, explore career pathways, and prepare for life after high school. In this article, join us as we take a look back at the highlights of the year, celebrate student achievements, and share how Pre-ETS supports students in developing the confidence, independence, and workplace readiness needed for future success.

From career exploration and workplace readiness training to self-advocacy and hands-on learning experiences, this year has been filled with growth, learning, and meaningful accomplishments.

Exploring Future Careers at JA JobSpark

One of the highlights of our school year was attending JA JobSpark, an interactive career exploration event hosted by Junior Achievement. This exciting experience gave students the opportunity to learn about careers through hands-on activities and demonstrations led by professionals from a variety of industries.

Students explored career paths in fields such as skilled trades, healthcare, finance, technology, and more. They had the chance to try welding simulations, learn about masonry techniques, explore careers in the finance industry, and even hold a real heart while learning about healthcare professions!

JA JobSpark provided students with a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world careers. By interacting directly with professionals and participating in engaging activities, students gained valuable insight into the many possibilities available to them after high school. Experiences like these help students discover their interests, build confidence, and begin thinking about their future goals.

Building Workplace Skills Through Community Involvement

Another memorable experience this school year was participating in the Cardinal Annual Luncheon. This event provided students with the opportunity to practice valuable workplace readiness and employment skills while supporting a meaningful community event.

Students took on a variety of responsibilities throughout the luncheon. Some welcomed and greeted guests as they arrived, helping attendees feel comfortable and valued. Others worked behind the scenes assisting with plating meals and ensuring everything was prepared for service. Following the event, students helped with cleanup, demonstrating teamwork, responsibility, and attention to detail.

One of the highlights of the luncheon was hearing from one of our students, who delivered an inspirational speech to attendees. His message reflected personal growth, perseverance, and the impact of opportunities like Pre-ETS. It was a proud moment that showcased the confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities that students continually develop throughout the program.

Experiences like the Cardinal Annual Luncheon allow students to apply their skills in real-world settings, gain valuable work experience, and make meaningful contributions to their community.

Preparing Today for Tomorrow’s Success

While many of our Pre-ETS activities take place within the school setting, where students spend time developing workplace readiness, communication, self-advocacy, and employability skills, we are always looking for opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom.

When opportunities arise, we take full advantage of them. Throughout the year, students participate in community-based experiences that allow them to apply their skills in real-world environments. These opportunities may include college visits, career exploration events, workplace tours, internships during school breaks and summer months, and volunteer experiences throughout the community.

By utilizing the resources and partnerships available in our community, students gain valuable exposure to different career pathways, post-secondary education options, and workplace expectations. These experiences help bridge the gap between classroom instruction and future employment, giving students the confidence and skills needed to pursue their goals after high school.
