Opportunity Labs
Learning Marketable Skills for the Workplace
Opportunity Labs identify the most common job opportunities available in our community and prepare individuals for those specific opportunities with hands-on experience and training to master required skills.
Opportunity Lab programs will include visits to local employers, and employers will be involved in guidance and instruction. This helps build connections between employers and job seekers. Program participants will earn Certificates of Completion for skills achieved, which will enhance their resume and increase the likelihood of employment success.
Current plans focus on three main industries: hospitality, health care and manufacturing:
-
The hospitality lab will prepare participants for employment in hotels, event centers, restaurants, cafes, and more. They will learn about customer service, safe food handling, cooking, housekeeping, time management and more.
-
The Pre-Manufacturing Academy is a hands-on, interactive program in partnership with Trine University that will prepare individuals for a good-paying career with Indiana’s most important industry – advanced manufacturing.
-
The health care lab prepares participants for a careers as certified nurse aides (CNAs). The program, which has been approved by the Indiana Board of Health, combines classroom instruction and hands-on skills training in our fully equipped health care opportunity lab with clinical training hours at a local senior community.
