Warsaw, Indiana ─ Cardinal Services has received a $30,000 grant from the K21 Health Foundation for the 2026 operations of their on-site clinic. The funds will help cover the costs of the specially trained staff of medical and psychiatric professionals contracted through Rounding Providers, American Heart Association, Bowen Health, and We Heel the Sole Podiatry.
Goals of the grant include that the clinic will serve at least 190 individuals with disabilities through a minimum of 500 medical visits and 750 psychiatric care appointments. In addition, 75% of clients will maintain their health care through the clinic, ensuring continuity of care and strong provider-patient relationships.
Preventative care is a high priority of the clinic. Studies, including those by the Centers for Disease Control, show that people with disabilities have not been encouraged to have preventative screenings that others are recommended to complete. The Cardinal team and clinic staff will continue to educate individuals and their families on the importance of these screenings and overall preventative healthcare. The goal is that at least 75% of patients will be up to date on age and gender appropriate screenings, including annual wellness checks.
Executive Director Marcie Arndt said that the on-site clinic is a powerful tool in meeting the health care needs of Cardinal’s participants.
“For many people with a disability, seeing a health care provider can be a traumatic experience with long-lasting, negative effects,” Arndt said. “The on-site clinic allows people to be treated in a familiar environment by professionals specially trained to serve them. We are grateful to K21 Health Foundation for their continued support of the clinic. Because of it, those we serve will have better health outcomes and a better quality of life well into the future.”
